Sleep River
In July 2022 I created an ambient Sound Bath for Bristol Harbor festival – Sleep River.
I collaborated with musician Amber-Ruth Watson and a group of young people from The West of England Centre for Inclusive Living (WECIL). I wanted to capture the quality of our sessions together, their warm, chaotic, bustling world, refracted into a dreamlike sound design that allows calm amidst a storm of life.
The piece employs chance, elements gradually enter and exit the sound field at random, creating an ever changing sound installation that never fully repeats. (Any Ableton/music tech nerds out there can DM me about my approach)
The work was installed into a space right in the thoroughfare of the festival, the explorers who found us were given this soothing gift where they could just sit and be, away from the wild mayhem of the outside world.
Here is a condensed version, capturing the essence of the endless dreamscape of the full work. A 30 minute capture of the work is up on my bandcamp page. I recommend listening to it with a cup of tea and a biscuit, or maybe just before you go to sleep…
